DIRECTORS
Director of Bands- Parkland High School
Ms. Rodriguez started at Parkland High School in 2009 as an Associate Director. During her career there, the Parkland High School Band received Sweepstakes honors at the University Interscholastic League. Along with those honors, Parkland placed 8th , achieved Best Drum Major and Best Colorguard at the 2009 Socorro Independent School District Marchfest, and was the Class B Exhibition winner for the New Mexico State University Tournament of Bands. The Parkland Band advanced to Area Marching Contest both years that they had the opportunity during her years at Parkland. In her return to Parkland High School in 2016, the Marching Band ranked 1st in the SISD Prelims Competition and competed as a Class B Finalist. The Concert Bands have also been successful in numerous UIL Concert/Sight Reading Contests earning Superior ratings.
Ms. Rodriguez began teaching in the Clint Indedpendent School District in 2013 as an Associate Director. During her career there, the Horizon High School Band received consecutive Sweepstakes honors at University Interscholastic League. Along with those honors, the Horizon Marching band placed 4th at the 2013 5A UIL Area Marching contest and placed 4th in the visual caption of NMSU TOB with an overall placement of 11.
Ms. Rodriguez is a brass specialist, with pedagogical proficiency in woodwind, percussion, and colorguard performance. Schools she attended were the University of Texas at El Paso and Montwood High School. She marched with Drum Corps International’s Blue Knight's Drum and Bugle Corps from Denver, Colorado in 2002-2005 and taught the corps as a marching visual technician in 2009. She has taught for 15 years at every level of band directing in public schools. Ms. Rodriguez has taught at Anthony High/Middle/Elementary Schools (A.I.S.D.), Parkland High School (Y.I.S.D.), Horizon High School, Ricardo Estrada Junior High School, and Horizon Middle School (C.I.S.D.) with responsibilities including but not limited to, Marching Band, Colorguard/Winterguard, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, 8th Grade Concert Band, and Beginning Band Flute/Oboe/Saxophone/Trumpet/French Horn.
Ms. Rodriguez holds a bachelors degree from The University of Texas at El Paso and is a member of the Texas Music Educator’s Association, Texas Bandmasters Association and the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

MEGAN HAYDEN
Director of Bands- Parkland Middle School.
Mrs. Hayden began her teaching career at Parkland Middle School in 2006. She left in 2012 to gain some High School teaching experience at Del Valle High School, taught at Eastwood Middle School, took some time away from teaching to be with her three young children, then returned home to Parkland in 2015. Mrs. Hayden grew up in Reno, NV, but has made El Paso her home along with her husband, Robert, who is an Associate Director of Bands at Del Valle High School, and their three children, Emma, Avery, and Kyle. Flute is Mrs. Hayden's primary instrument, with a small background in Baritone/Trombone as well. She received her Bachelor's in Music Education from The University of Arizona and her Master's in Music Education from Kent State University.

Emily petty
Assistant Director of Bands- Parkland Middle School
Mrs. Petty is an El Paso native. She grew up in Northeast and attended Dolphin Terrace Elementary School, Parkland Middle School, and she graduated from Parkland High School in 2013. Mrs. Petty started her teaching career as an Assistant Band Director at Irvin High school in 2017. From there, she took a position as an itinerant Assistant Band Director at Hanks High School and it’s feeder middle schools, Desert View Middle School, and Hanks Middle School from 2018-2023. In the fall off 2023 she transitioned to a full-time position as an Assistant Band Director at Parkland Pre-Engineering Middle School.
In her time as an assistant director at Hanks High School, the band consistently received Superior ratings at both the UIL Marching Band Contest and UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. During this time, the band was also the UIL Area A 5A Champions 2019 & 2021, qualified for the UIL 5A State Marching Band Contest 2019 & 2021, and have been named the NMSU Tournament of Bands Grand Champions 2018-2022.
Mrs. Petty studied at the University of Texas at El Paso where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education. While earning her degree, she was a member of the UTEP Symphony Orchestra, the UTEP Wind Symphony, the Marching Miners, and the UTEP Flautistas. Mrs. Petty performed with the UTEP Wind Symphony at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, with the UTEP Flautistas at the National Flute Association Convention in Chicago, with the National Flute Choir for the NFA Convention in Chicago, and she served as a Drum Major for the Marching Miners. Mrs. Petty is married to her loving husband Justin who is the Head Band Director at Bobby Joe Hill Pre-k – 8. They have 3 fur babies Apollo, Mowgli, and Rameses

DAVID LAROCQUE
Band Director- Parkland Area Elementary Schools
Mr. LaRocque graduated with a Bachelor's in Music Education Degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. While attending UTEP he performed in many ensemble groups such as the UTEP Wind Ensemble, UTEP's Symphony Orchestra, "Bones on the Border" Trombone Choir, and UTEP's Dinner Theater to name a few. Mr. LaRocque started teaching general music in the Clint Independent School District. After nine years he moved to the Ysleta Independent School District where he has been teaching elementary band for fourteen years. Mr. LaRocque also teaches wood crafting in the 21st Century Ace Program at Parkland Middle School.

GABY CARDENAS
Guard Instructor- Parkland High School
Gabriela Cardenas began her career as a Guard Director in 1998 in El Paso, Texas at Andress High School, where she was a member of the Eagles’ Colorguard and graduated from in 1996. In 2005, after leaving El Paso for a few years, she started the guard program at Parkland High School, where she is currently the Guard Director. During her time at Parkland, the guard program has had great success, receiving numerous awards, including West Texas Colorguard Association Top 3 Finalists for several years.
Gabriela is a current board member for the West Texas Colorguard Association and has had the privilege of serving since 2012. She has also served as a guard clinician for local high schools and as a guest judge for the Winterguard Invitational in Albuquerque, NM.
Gabriela’s full time career is as a property manager for a local apartment community. However, her dream has always been to teach at the elementary level. She earned her Associates Degree in Education in 2014 from El Paso Community College and is currently attending the University of Texas El Paso to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
